Nibblings is a digital resource that helps kids develop cooking and learning skills. With kid-centered recipes and parent guides, Nibblings turns kitchen time into an opportunity to practice executive functioning skills, support independence, and build resilience.

Sophie designs each recipe for kids aged 8–16 to cook a full dish from start to finish with these goals in mind.

Nibblings isn’t just about following recipes. It’s about promoting essential skills for lifelong learners.

And Nibblings doesn’t just help kids develop skills; it helps grownups understand learning design too. Grownups get companion guides with each recipe that explain the educational thinking behind the kitchen tasks and offer strategies that support autonomy and perseverance in the kitchen and beyond. Think of it as an inside look at how expert educators design for learning.

I'm Sophie Mortner, the founder and creator at Nibblings! I am a learning designer, educator, executive function coach, home cook, and mom. I’ve dedicated my career to helping kids become better, more self-assured and independent learners. I’ve worked in the classroom and with students privately, and I’ve designed learning resources for companies like BrainPOP, and non-profit organizations like Making Caring Common at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. I have a master’s degree in Learning & Teaching from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and I am trained in Universal Design For Learning (UDL), Responsive Classroom, and Montessori education. You can find more information about my educational and professional background here.

I started Nibblings because I believe that when kids learn to navigate the kitchen, they develop the confidence, persistence, and love of learning that will serve them for life.
